June 23, 2009

We went to bed fairly early last night, so it was easy to wake up early. We let Logan sleep in while we went over to the market. After cappuccinos and cream-filled croissants, Annie and I took the metro over. We got there right when it opened, so it wasn't too crowded at all. A few purchases later, and we headed back. The first train we saw was so jam-packed with people, we couldn't even fit, so we took the next one. We got back, checked out, and we headed to the station. Unfortunately, the train didn't leave for another hour, but we entertained ourselves with hangman and beef jerky. Annie is a bit upset, because she has already finished her book and has to wait to get the next one till mom gets here. The train was hot! Italy in general is a pretty warm place. It is definitely a change from Switzerland. We got to Verona and to our hostel, the B&B Rigoletto, which, surprise, happens to be an apartment that some man rents out. There are 3 rooms, a bathroom, and kitchen. We didn't find out about this right away, though, because the owner was not there when we got there. We had to wait on the street for about a half an hour for him to show up. He was extremely friendly though, and it is quite nice here. It is amazing how much quality just a couple of bucks will get you! Soon, we went to check out the town. It's a pretty cute place. We went over to the Roman Ampitheatre and the river. Then, we smelled pizza, so we had to go find it. It was a cheap walk up place! We could not pass that up (not even for McDonalds...cough cough Logan and Annie cough cough...) so we got pizza slices and calzones! I dripped some grease on my pants :( but the tide pen helped a bit. I hope it'll be able to come out. We sat at a park for a bit and watched a massive amount of drug deals go down. It was pretty hilarious. Later, we got gelato! I had melon and vanilla this time. Logan had green apple/melon and Annie had sweet cream/mango. Again, it was SO good! It rained a bit, and we headed back to the hotel. We are now watching Italian TV and relaxing for our trip to Venice tomorrow!
